AAEES Webinar in April

Date: April 26, 2017
Time: 12 noon EDT
Topic: Orange County Groundwater Replenishment System Initial Expansion

Project Summary: The Initial Expansion of the Groundwater Replenishment System (GWRS) made the world's largest advanced water purification system for the potable reuse even bigger. The 30 mgd expansion increased capacity of the GWRS to 100 mgd. The expansion featured several key developments to optimize the performance of the existing advanced water purification facility. Completed in 2015, the Initial Expansion included enhancements to the post-treatment system and the RO system as well as a concept to equalize secondary effluent flow to maximize GWRS capacity.

The GWRS is a joint project of Orange County Sanitation District and the Orange County Water District. By taking highly treated wastewater and purifying it through a three step process, it produces near-distilled quality water. The webinar will also feature a discussion on the unexpected benefits that accrued to the OCSD from the GWSR during the recent drought, and even more so in the time since the drought has abated over the past few months.

Black & Veatch provided preliminary a final design as the structural, civil, electrical and mechanical engineer. Parsons served as the construction manager for the project, and McCarthy Building Companies Inc. was the general contractor.

Webinar details: This will be an interactive session with "live chat" capability as well. This session is open to environmental engineering and science professionals across all sectors and career stages. Our objective is to offer special insights for graduate and undergraduate students as well as early to mid-career environmental professionals.

Nominations for AAEES Representative to the ABET Board of Delegates

The AAEES Education Committee is soliciting nominations for the position of AAEES Delegate to the ABET Board of Delegates.

The ABET Board of Delegates meets twice per year (usually in or near Baltimore, MD). The ABET Board of Delegates is responsible for oversight of accreditation operations, election of the ABET Board of Directors, and representing sponsoring organizations. Delegates serve a term of three years, and may be reappointed a maximum of one time for a total of six years. The AAEES Delegate also serves on one or more of the three ABET Area Delegations that meet at the same time. The three Area Delegations to which AAEES will have representation are the Engineering Accreditation Commission (EAC), the Engineering Technology Accreditation Commission (ETAC), and the Applied Science Accreditation Commission (ASAC). Area and Board Delegates of ABET may not serve in multiple roles as Delegate, Officer, Director, or Commissioner.

Preferred qualifications for this appointment include experience as an ABET Program Evaluator and experience as a member of one of the ABET commissions, although exceptional candidates without these qualifications are also encouraged to apply. If you are interested in being considered for an appointment either as the AAEES Delegate or Alternate Delegate, or would like to nominate someone else, please forward your nomination(s) to the Chair of the AAEES Education Committee, David Chin at dchin@miami.edu. The deadline for nominations is June 15, 2017.
