Their support helps to advance best practices of environmental engineering and science. PDHs were earned by attending the morning technical presentations. Sponsors include:

ABET

Environmental Engineering & Science Foundation

C.P. Huang, Ph.D., BCEEM

American Public Health Association

HDR

Excellence in Environmental Engineering and Science Education Award, sponsored by ABET

Presentations will be posted soon to aaees.org. You will receive notification for free access as soon as presentations become available online. Photos are now posted to https://www.flickr.com/photos/aaeesdotorg/ and https://www.facebook.com/AAEESdotORG/.

And a special thank you to Master of Ceremonies,

Thank You, Academy Patrons

In addition to the event-specific sponsors listed above, we also want to acknowledge the support that we receive from our Patrons. Big Change Coming in AAEES Elections

online voting

The May to June timeframe is when we hold elections for the Academy's officers and trustees. Until now, that meant a massive mailing on the part of the Academy to put the paper ballot into the members' hands, along with some supporting materials and a non-postage-paid return envelope.

You'll notice the key phrase, until now. That's right! We are changing over to running our elections electronically. Working with an experienced and highly-regarded firm whose business is doing elections for not-for-profit organizations, we will be implementing this year's election totally electronically. Rather than handling paper and doing manual ballot counts, each eligible member will be sent an electronic ballot that looks a lot like what we've been doing in previous years. The difference will be that it takes one click to open the ballot, a few more clicks to vote for your candidates, and one more to submit your vote.

With this system there will be every incentive to vote immediately rather than put it off, and running the risk of never actually voting. So when you see an item in your inbox that says AAEES Election please do us a favor and set aside a few minutes to take care of that ballot right away. The system we are using for the online election is myDirectVote so the email will be coming from directvote.net.

Taking care of this right away will guarantee that you get no more reminders. Or conversely, not responding will guarantee that you do get a reminder if you are too busy with other things to fill out the ballot right then.

The bottom line is that we expect to see participation rates improve by at least 30% and possibly more. We see this change as being good for our members and good for the Academy. Please feel free to contact us with any comments you might have on how the new process worked for you and what changes or improvements you might recommend for the next cycle in 2020.

Thanks for taking the time to cast your ballot.

AAEES Member Elected to NAE

We are proud to announce that one of our very own AAEES Board Certified members has been elected to join The National Academy of Engineering (NAE). John Koon, Ph.D., P.E., BCEE, ENV SP, NAE is one of the 86 new members and 18 foreign members who will be joining The National Academy of Engineering.

Election to the National Academy of Engineering is among the highest professional distinctions accorded to an engineer. Academy membership honors those who have made outstanding contributions to "engineering research, practice, or education, including, where appropriate, significant contributions to the engineering literature" and to "the pioneering of new and developing fields of technology, making major advancements in traditional fields of engineering, or developing/implementing innovative approaches to engineering education." Individuals in the newly elected class will be formally inducted during a ceremony at the NAE's annual meeting in Washington, D.C., on October 6, 2019.

John Koon, Ph.D., P.E., BCEE, ENV SP, NAE has been a member of AAEES for over 29 years. He is the president of John H. Koon & Associates, Atlanta. Koon was elected to The National Academy of Engineering for his valuable contributions to the design of systems to treat chemically complex industrial wastewaters.

"It is an incredible honor," Koon said. "I'm delighted to be included in this remarkable group of engineers."
